BREAD TORQUE!
Royal Plaza on Scotts flags off in support of Community Chest
Chefs of Royal Plaza on Scotts worked tirelessly on the life-sized bread race car for more than two weeks
Singapore, 26 August 2009 – Dazzling lights and tyre-burning speed will take centre stage as the nation celebrates Singapore’s second night motor racing season. At Royal Plaza on Scotts (RP), it’s BREAD TORQUE!as the hotel joins in the much anticipated event with a cornucopia of specially baked bread and a good deed. RP will be flagging off the occasion with a life-sized bread race car in its lobby, the first ever ‘dough-inspired’ race car to be created in Asia.
RP’s Culinary Executive Chef Abraham Tan will lead a team of six chefs, two artists, two engineering technicians and two culinary staff to create Asia’s largest bread race car. Measuring over 4.24 metres long, 1.78 metres wide and 1.03 metres high, the bread replica will delight both young and old with its eye-catching display of the baker’s art and a sheer fantasy turned into reality by dedicated RP staff and five young volunteers from Community Chest Singapore’s Metta School.
BREAD TORQUE!supports Community Chest, Singapore’s efforts to raise awareness for the charity movement and its beneficiaries. RP has hosted many events before to help Community Chest Singapore raise funds and donations to nurture and provide care for the under privileged.
“Community Chest is passionate about the main concerns of our community. We explore every opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate in every segment of society. We are very touched by the supportfrom the hospitality sector in Singapore, and particularly from Royal Plaza on Scotts, which has continually hosted various charitable projects to support our efforts at nurturing children to succeed and helping people with disabilities to lead independent lives. The bread car is a creative and meaningful way to further our cause and we are grateful to Royal Plaza on Scotts for organising it,” said Ms Eunice Olsen, member of Community Chest committee.
Mr Patrick Fiat, General Manager of RP, said: “What better way to usher in Singapore’s second night motor racing season than doing something meaningful for charity and the underprivileged. The life-sized bread race car not only offers our guests a spectacular visual and culinary treat when they visit Singapore during this period, it is also the highlight of a series of activities under the banner of BREAD TORQUE!”
Guests of RP and members of the public are able to join in the buzz of this motor racing season through:
