New mooncake dessert from 2am: dessertbar

2am:dessertbar has always been one to defy the boundaries of desserts by blurring the lines between savoury and sweet – and they have done it again, with the introduction of their new dessert, the PB &J.

With Mid-Autumn Festival round the corner, most establishments launch a range of mooncakes to be purchased by the box. Few, if any, have allowed their guests to enjoy the mooncake in a more personal way. 2am:dessertbar has gone a step further by inviting you to celebrate the festival more intimately, with an individually portioned snowskin mooncake designed to leave you wanting more.

Traditional flavours have been stripped and the new dish jazzed up with all time favourites like peanutbutter and chocolate. If that sounds heavy to you, fret not.

Peanut butter has been churned into a light-as-air espuma, with water techniques used for their dark chocolate aero block. Layers of mara des bois (wild strawberry) and quince gel under the snowskin surprise lends a tangy touch to each bite, with strawberry shortbread ice-cream rounding off the delectable combination.

The result leaves you reminiscing your childhood where peanut butter, and the occasional jam additions, probably played a big part in breakfasts and tea time snacks.

This festival was created to coincide with the time of year where the moon is at its fullest and roundest. With flavours like these and a reasonable price tag of $14, you can be sure you will leave the bar feeling just like the moon.

2am:dessertbar also sells chocolate-centred snowskin mooncakes with flavours like Yuzu, Basil White Chocolate, Praline and Truffle ($45) and durian ($48). Each set comes in boxes of 8 pieces.

Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore presents new mooncake flavours and gift boxes

Due to popular demand and positive feedback, Master Chef Peter Tsang will reintroduce two gift boxes, Double Prosperity and Tea Culture.  Double Prosperity comprises 16 mini baked moon cakes encased in a distinctive decorative box.  Tea Culture is an intricate gift set with compartments to hold two canisters of Shang Palace’s premium Long Jin and Peony Blossom teas as well as six regular baked moon cakes.
  There is also a newly created gift box option this year, Mini Shang Palace Three Treasures, featuring six mini baked moon cakes (two moon cakes per flavour). Guests will find that these boxes make ideal gifts for friends and business associates.

 

A perennial favourite with guests, Shang Palace’s signature Four Treasures baked moon cakes – Plain White Lotus Seed Paste and White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk, Mixed Berry Paste and Mixed Nuts with Chinese Ham – remain available for sale this year.  The Mixed Nuts Moon Cake is a blend of crunchy dried walnut, orange peel, melon seeds, a dash of Chinese rose essence wine and fragrant Chinese ham.
