Jaan par André Debuts At No. 39 On The S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants List 2010

04/27/2010

Singapore, 27 April 2010 – Scaling the heights of international restaurant accolades, French nouvelle establishment Jaan par André has set an historic record for Singapore with its debut amongst the top restaurants in the renowned S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants List 2010.

At an awards ceremony held in London's Guildhall yesterday night, Jaan par André swept the spotlight for achieving the amazing distinction of clinching the 'List's' highest debut for a Singapore restaurant. This is undoubtedly an extraordinary achievement for Jaan par André and Equinox Complex, Swissôtel The Stamford's signature lifestyle, entertainment and epicurean destination.

Achieving a position in the high-profile S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants List is considered one of the restaurant world's most sought-after accolades, comparable to receiving a Michelin-star. Released annually, the 'List' is the result of an extensive poll of the world’s most celebrated chefs, renowned food critics, leading restaurateurs and well-travelled gourmands – an impressive collective known as 'The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy'.

Sharing his elation after accepting the award at London's Guildhall, Mr Aiden McAuley, General Manager, Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore and Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, said, "Swissôtel The Stamford and Equinox Complex are extremely proud of Jaan par André's spectacular debut in this year's 'List' – an honour which we must dedicate to our extraordinary culinary and service teams who epitomise our credo 'A Passion For Perfection', and have been instrumental in realising our vision of Jaan par André as an international destination for dining excellence."

Mr Nigel Moore, Director of Food and Beverage Services for Swissôtel The Stamford, added, "Jaan par André, as well as Equinox Complex's other well-established offerings like New Asia and Equinox Restaurant, have consistently set benchmarks for Asia's gastronomic and entertainment scenes, having always emerged at the top of their categories in local and regional awards. This latest, and very prestigious, honour for Jaan par André will only spur the team on to up the ante again, as it has done many times in the past, and to continue Equinox Complex's pioneering efforts in the lifestyle, culinary and entertainment arena."

This distinction adds to the title of Singapore's 'Restaurant Of The Year', which Jaan par André received recently at the World Gourmet Summit Awards Of Excellence on 10 April 2010.

An extraordinary effort and tireless commitment from every one of Jaan par André's team members has seen this intimate, 40-seat restaurant rise to claim its ranks amongst some of the world's most coveted dining destinations. Incredible acclaim – from international food critics, restaurant guides and the bon vivant set – has also propelled Jaan par André to achieve pinnacles such as Asia's 4th Best Restaurant in the much-respected Miele Guide 2009/2010.

As one of the country’s largest hotels and lion city’s towering icon of Swiss hospitality, Swissôtel The Stamford leverages on “We Care Week” as a valuable opportunity to reinforce key eco-friendly messages including the urgent need to develop greater care and affinity for the environment through sustainable practices. “We believe that through simple initiatives such as conducting an artisict collage competition for colleagues using recyclable materials, enforcing a “Lights Off” campaign in office areas after 7:30pm as well as encouraging everyone to keep their work areas clean and tidy, help remind our team members that we have a responsibility to our environment,” says Nigel Moore, Swissôtel The Stamford’s Director of Food & Beverage Services and the hotel’s Green and Sustainability Champion.

During “We Care Week”, a plethora of colleague-centric activities will be conducted including health talks on the most common issues affecting workers in the service and hospitality industry such as risks of obesity and high cholesterol as well as poor eyesight. A leisure jog involving Swissôtel The Stamford’s Executive Committee and Management teams, colleagues and guests will also be held twice daily covering 3.5km along the scenic Marina Bay Area to reinforce the need for everyone to maintain a healthier lifestyle amidst our busy schedules. A special Full Moon Yoga will also be conducted where a selected number of colleagues and guests will be provided with a complementary yoga experience under the moonlit sky on Thursday, 29 April 2010. This endeavour is also in line with the hotel’s commitment to inculcate the value of regular exercise and pursuing an active life amongst colleagues and guests alike.

Another vital pillar of Swissotel’s commitment to sustainability is focused towards caring for the community. As such, the 1,600 plus strong workforce of Swissôtel The Stamford and its sister property, Fairmont Singapore are encouraged to voluntarily support the needy by donating one or more non-perishable food items. These food items will be collected and donated to the AWWA Elderly Service & AWWA Family Service Centre. AWWA (Asian Women’s Welfare Association) was established in 1970 to empower the disadvantaged through programmes for the elderly, disabled and families.

In the same token, Swissôtel The Stamford will also provide children from the AWWA Family Service Centre for underprivileged and needy families a special afternoon tea. Led by General Manager Aiden McAuley, Director of Kitchens Otto Weibel together with members of Swissôtel The Stamford’s Executive Committee, the children will be treated to a memorable Afternoon Hi-Tea as well as an interactive cookie baking workshop under the guidance of the award-winning Executive Pastry Chef Kenny Kong.

SINGAPORE, August 2009 – Chef André Chiang of Jaan par André at Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore, teams up with Sydney culinary icon and owner of Marque restaurant, Mark Best, to present exemplary French nouvelle cuisine at the Sydney Morning Herald's brand new Sydney International Food Festival (SIFF) in October.

Sharing a pure love for the fine art of French cuisine, Chefs André Chiang and Mark Best are set to be Sydney's most anticipated culinary pairing when the inaugural World Chef Showcase debuts at SIFF this 9 to 11 October.

As a major highlight of the month-long food festival, the World Chef Showcase comprises a series of exclusive dinners, discussions and culinary demonstrations that will bring together Sydney's biggest culinary stars – Rockpool's Neil Perry, Brent Savage of Bentley Bar, Justin North of Becasse, etc – as well as the world's top-rated chefs including three-Michelin-star Sebastien Bras; Madrid, Spain's two-Michelin-star Sergi Arola and many more.

Chef André will present a one-night only nine-course dinner at Marque on 8 October alongside Sydney star Chef Mark and his team, showcasing his signature French nouvelle palette of pure flavours, unique ingredients and creative harmonies of texture and taste. Having recently celebrated a remarkable first year as Chef de Cuisine at Jaan par André, Chef André is perfectly poised to charm Sydney-siders' sharpened palates with distinctive cuisine that has impressed Singapore's gourmet elite and redefined culinary standards in Asia.

Honoured to be included in the World Chef Showcase's stellar line-up, Chef André is looking forward to presenting his unique approach to Australian ingredients. He shares, "Australia is now the New World destination for top quality produce. I'm very excited to introduce my concept of cuisine featuring Australian ingredients to Sydney, to present creations that feature the country's produce at its best."

Joanna Savill, Festival Director of SIFF, is confident that Chef André will be a success with Sydney's bon vivant set, "André embodies the essence of world class chefs today – culinarians who are known for their extraordinary creativity as well as their ability to move effortlessly between East and West in terms of food cultures, traditions, techniques and inspirations. These are qualities which I am trying to highlight with the World Chef Showcase."

Chef André will also be participating in a culinary demonstration and symposium discussion held during the World Chef Showcase.

SINGAPORE, July 2009 - In celebration of Chef André Chiang's first anniversary at Jaan par André, Chefs With Altitude (CWA) 2009 returns with bang to lift unparalleled gourmet food to new heights, and highlight the enigmatic Chef de Cuisine’s award-winning signature style of French nouvelle cuisine. Pure flavours, unique ingredients and creative harmonies of taste and texture are hallmarks of Chef André's culinary repertoire, and diners will experience these ideals expressed with his indulgent menus. In line with CWA 2009, a slew of inviting gastronomic and nocturnal entertainment treats await at Equinox Complex (Jaan par André, Equinox Restaurant, New Asia, City Space, Introbar and Equinox Private Dining Rooms) during this week-long celebration.

Given the creative reign to develop a striking collection for CWA, Chef André will focus on seasonal Japanese ingredients to create his dream menu as Japan offers an abundance of outstanding local produce. The land of the rising sun is blessed with a bounty of premium ingredients that are almost identical to the range of produce from France, thanks to its seasonal nature and landscape, both of which are similar to conditions in Europe. Diners can look forward to a surprising compilation of set menus and à la carte offerings, with each dish featuring ingredients hand-selected by Chef André during a special expedition to Japan.

Having inherited a rich culinary pedigree from Europe's grand masters of gastronomy, Jaan par André's 33-year-old Chef de Cuisine - André Chiang, is redefining French nouvelle cuisine in Singapore and the world with an accomplished instinct for combining unique ingredients and pure flavours with his innate creative talent.

Since Taiwan-born Chef André's first menu launch at Jaan par André in July 2008, his artisanal flair and exuberance in using unique ingredients have captivated elite gourmands, many of whom return repeatedly to savour his exemplary cooking that encapsulates the creative spirit of French nouvelle cuisine.

Jaan par André is today, an autonomous, fine-dining restaurant located in and supported by Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore. And under Chef André's stewardship, it is perfectly pitched to epitomise Asia's embodiment of a new breed of epicurean excellence.
